doc. RNDr. Jiří Tesař, Ph.D.

Assoc. Prof. Jiri Tesar, Ph.D. graduated with a master´s degree in physics at Faculty of Science of Masaryk University in Brno. He completed his doctoral studies in the field of metrology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. He obtained the title of Doctor of Science in the field of vakuum physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague. Recieved habilitation in the field of metrology in 2015 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. He completed internships at the national metrology institutes LNE France and PTB Germany and stayed as a guest researcher at the national metrology institute NIST. In 2003 he graduated from the Summer Metrology School of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures BIPM in Sevres.

Since 1996 he has been working at the Czech Metrology Institute, where he took up the position of metrologist at the Pressure Department. In the years 1997-2001 worked as the Head of the Department of primary pressure metrology and a manager for this field of measurement. Subsequently, from 2002 to 2005, he held the position of Head of the Department of Primary Metrology of Pressure, Vacuum and Small Mass Flow. From 2001-2006 he was the guarantor of the National Standard of overpressure and absolute pressure in a gaseous medium and the National standard of overpressure in liquid medium. From 2006 to the present, he is the director of fundamental metrology and the statutory representative of the Czech Metrology Institute. Within a job position, he was the lead researcher or co-researcher of more than 30 international metrology and research projects. As part of his scientific activities, he has been working since 1997 as a professional technical assessor in accreditation for the national metrological bodies in Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. Since 2006, he has been member of the Accreditation Council of the Czech Accreditation Institute and is also a member of the Technical Committee for CAI Calibration Laboratories. Since 2003, he has been working as an assessor within the framework of international agreement CIPM MRA where he has so far performed a peer review audit at the national metrology institutes of Finland, Slovakia, Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland. Since 2003, Assoc. Prof. Tesar, Ph.D. has led several international development projects in the field of metrology and standardization, in particular in Moldova, Northern Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mongolia and Azerbaijan. He also worked in the management of international development projects in Serbia, Egypt, Albania, Georgia and Ukraine and as a short-term expert in another 12 development projects in the field of metrology or standardization. Since 2006, Assoc. Prof Tesar, Ph.D. is a member of the Scientific Board of the Slovak Metrology Institute and since 2020 a member of Scientific Board of Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague. He has also been a member of the EURAMET Technical Committee for Interdisciplinary Metrology since 2006. In the period 2009-2013 he was a member of the Committee of the European Metrology Research Program EMRP and since 2014 he has been a member of the European Metrology Program for Innovation and Research EMPIR. He is also a member of the EMPIR Subcommittee on Science. From 2007 to 2021, he had been repeatedly elected Vice-Chairman of the Metrology Council of the Office for Standardization, Metrology and Testing of the Czech Republic.

On May 1, 2021, the Minister of Industry and Trade appointed him as the CEO of the Czech Metrology Institute.

Assoc. Prof. Jiri Tesar, Ph.D. is the author of 1 book, the co-author of 3 books and the author or co-author of more than 30 articles published in foreign scientific journals. At the same time as a member of the editorial board of a Czech and one foreign journal in the field of metrology.
